They issued a series of silver coins in five and ten dollar denominations. The series ran from 1973 to 1976. There were seven pairs of designs in each denomination, making fourteen different designs of coins in each, and twenty eight in total.

The $5.00 Silver coins are 38mm in diameter and contain 0.7227 Troy oz of fine silver. The $10.00 Silver coins are 45mm in diameter and contain 1.4454 Troy oz of fine silver.

Normally, I’m not a huge fan of purely commemorative coins. However, I’m curious with the Olympics coming up this year, that it will have an effect on market prices for related coins. I can only assume that they will, but am keeping an eye on it.

Using both properly can boost your selling price a lot, especially for expensive items. For some reason though, coin sellers seem to not know this.

I see way too many auctions that may have good pictures, but have extremely short descriptions that are WRITTEN COMPLETELY IN CAPS LOCK.

Aside from being for a neat coin in general, this auction does a description properly.

We are very pleased to offer this authentic 2300 year old Egyptian silver Tetradrachm of King Ptolemy I for your consideration. It survives in very fine condition with both sides exhibiting a deeply toned luster. It features a portrait of King Ptolemy I Soter and a bold depiction of an eagle holding a thunderbolt in its talons. On the obverse can be seen several ancient banker’s marks ( a common trait for this coinage ). Ptolemy established the first Greek dynasty in Egypt and was responsible for the construction of the great Library at Alexandria as well as one of the wonders of the ancient world, the Pharos lighthouse. For those of you just beginning to collect ancient coins, this is a large denomination weighting over 13 grams of silver.

it then includes an excellent history of King Ptolemy. If ancient coins interest you, I suggest you view this auction. if not, that look at it anyway. It’s how an auction should be done to make sure your item sells for as much as possible.
